We investigate the relations between the hearts of two t-structures on one triangulated category. Under suitable compatibility conditions, we obtain a common generalization of the duality theory developed by Grothendieck and Roos (1962) for regular commutative rings and the tilting theory (Brenner-Butler 1979, Happel-Ringel 1982, Bongartz 1982) used in the investigation of finite-dimensional algebras (Happel 1987).
