    Course: Number Theory with an introduction to cryptography.
    The goal of this course is to introduce the main tools from number theory which are necessary for cryptography and coding theory.
    We start by reviewing the basic tools from algebra, including group theory (especially cyclic groups, finite abelian groups), ring theory (characteristic, ideals, quotient), field theory (extensions).
    Next we study elementary arithmetic: residue classes, the ring of polynomials over a field or over the rational integers, Möbius inversion formula, cyclotomic polynomials.
    One very important and basic chapter is devoted to the theory of finite fields.
    The last part of the course includes an introduction to cryptography and to error correcting codes.
