We present basic properties of finite complex reflection groups and introduce their associated braid group and cyclotomic Hecke algebra. We discuss properties of cyclotomic Hecke algebras and introduce the notion of speciality. If time permits we shall give an idea on what is known on the so-called Spetses. Finally, we mention some open questions in this area, of theoretical and also of a more computational nature.
