The monodromy construction of representations of the generic Hecke algebras associated to a finite Coxeter or reflection group W naturally suggests the investigation of a reductive Lie algebra involving the reflections of W. This Lie algebra is ultimately interpreted as the Lie algebra of an algebraic group : the Zariski closure of the (generalized) braid group inside the Hecke algebra.
