I will discuss how to calculate a variety of moments of the Lerch
zeta function using elementary techniques.
This will be applied to calculate certain moments of Dirichlet
L-functions, and in particular we will generalize
(and reprove) a result of Heath-Brown who obtained an asymptotic
expansion for the second moment of Dirichlet
L-functions of prime moduli.
