Amenhotep I and Ahmose Meryt-Amon

Amenhotep I was the son of Ahmosis and Ahmose Nefertiri.
He reigned from 1514 to 1493 B.C.
He was suitably warlike (defeating Libyans and Nubians).
The priests declared him a god upon his death.

Because his only son died in infancy, his military commander Thutmosis,
who had married a woman named Ahmose (they all seem to have this name)
who may have been either the king's sister or daughter, assumed the throne on his death.

Because Amenhotep's mother Nefertiri had been regent when he was a child,
and because of her fame and her personality,
she continued to be very powerful and present during his reign.
Queen Meritamon was more modest and little is known about her
except that she also bore the title of "God's Wife of Amon".
